The Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz, Max Planck-Institut, offers a position as a scientific collaborator (50%) for a doctoral student in Medieval Western, Byzantine, Jewish or Islamic Art History working on Jerusalem, the Holy Land or a connected theme. The position is funded by the German-Israeli-Foundation and offered for 1 year with the option of extension for a second year.
The PhD candidate will collaborate in the G.I.F. project “The Holy Land Elsewhere”, which focuses on manifestations of the Holy Land in Europe and the Mediterranean and is conducted in collaboration with Prof. Bianca Kühnel, The Hebrew University, Jerusalem, and Prof. Bruno Reudenbach, Universität Hamburg. Furthermore, close cooperation is planned with the project “Jerusalem as Narrative and Iconic Space (4th to 15th Century)” based at the Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz (http://www.khi.fi.it/forschung/projekte/projekte/projekt17/index.html).
We are looking for excellent applicants with a high degree of motivation, autonomy, willingness to cooperate and openness to multidisciplinary approaches. We offer a highly stimulating environment with the opportunity to exchange and discuss ideas with excellent young scholars, and also to participate in activities and events at the Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz.
